WHAT: An aerialist's relationship with the ground is just as important as their ability to fly in the air. Unfortunately it's a very overlooked element of most aerial acts; most performers leave the ground as quickly as possible and don’t utilize it as an additional artistic tool. Through exercise and exploration, this class will help you learn the tools at your deposal, how to use our connection with the ground to our advantage, and make transitions from one to to the other more seamless. We will spend some time getting grounded into the floor, investigating the new ways our apparatus can move, and exploring the creativity available when our weight is shared between the two.
PREREQUSITES:
At least 8 aerial hours of aerial experience required.
Designed to suit more intermediate and advanced levels as well.
APPARATUSES: A variety of fabrics, slings, trapezes and hoops will be hung.
WHO: Meghan Spencer began performing at the age of 4, soaking up every performance opportunity she could get her hands on from dance, to marching band, to theatre. This love for creative arts and the stage shifted to aerial when she took her first Beginning Aerial class in February of 2016 and was instantly hooked. Meghan has been performing professionally in Kansas City as a company member with KC Circus Co, and KC Burlesque Downtown Underground, and freelancing for other local and nationally recognized companies, including Quixotic Fusion & American Immersion Theater.
Lyra has always been Meghan’s favorite apparatus, but she can also perform on trapeze, sling, and flying pole as well as ground disciplines. She also loves using her dance and acting background to bring a little something extra to her choreography both on the ground and in the air. Meghan specializes in creative storytelling and emotional performances.
