What: This workshop is designed for those with little or no experience going upside down or balancing on their hands. Students will learn all the necessary tools needed to develop a safe and confident inversion practice. Alignment, proper foundation, and the basic principles of going upside down will all be covered in detail. This workshop will walk you through step-by-step instructions on how to balance on your head, forearms and hands.
Prerequisites: Ages 16+. Must feel comfortable inverting on the ground. Background in aerial, cheer, dance and gymnastics is helpful, but not required.
Who: Anya Shevelyuk grew up being in the spotlight. At a young age, she took up ballet and performed in several shows. At the age of 19, Anya moved to Kansas City to continue training with KC Ballet. In 2011 she began training in contortion and aerial arts. During this time she also studied yoga and received her degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Health & Fitness.
In 2013 Anya joined Voler: Thieves of Flight, an aerial performance ensemble; traveling, performing and teaching acrobatics. In late 2014 Anya relocated to Las Vegas to further her career as a performing artist and coach.
In 2016 Anya became the first person in the world teaching exclusive contortion techniques invented by contortionist Otgo Waller under the Flexible Body Art certification. With extensive experience, she has created a unique workout regimen combining the art of Mongolian contortion, dance, gymnastics, pilates, scientific physiology, and yoga.
In addition to coaching acrobatics, Anya can now be found in the circus and burlesque scene performing rigorous ground and aerial acts. Whether it is a scandalous cabaret, birthday party, nightclub, or street performance, Anya strives to bring something memorable to her audience, leaving them inspired and amazed.
